Songs That Build Trust

SONGS THAT BUILD TRUST focuses on the student as a friend to him/ herself--honest, caring, and sharing his or her feelings.

Lydia and dog puppetThe performance helps students build self-esteem through upbeat appreciation for the individual's uniqueness and contribution to the home and school community.

Some of the songs identify challenging times and offer positive responses for coping with them. Some topics covered are bullying, not fitting in, racisim, and changes within the family.

Hand puppets model behavior, and interact spontaneously (ad libbing) with the students.

Interactive songs, such as I'd Like to Walk in Your Shoes, and Courage, are about identifying with someone who is unpopular and being treated unfairly. Pulling together in tough economic times inspires a new version of Pennies from Heaven and My Favorite Things.

American Sign Language - Students learn ASL alphabet and are introduced to signs for greetings, simple commands, questions and a few short phrases. Lydia sings and signs and teaches the students a simple song in sign. They learn finger spelling (great for tactile learners!). Enhances communication and reading skills.

All of the programs include 100% audience participation. American Sign Language is incorporated into many of the programs. Lydia holds a Masters Degree in Special Education. Lydia loves to entertain and involve special needs audiences.
